I'm trying out some XL basing for my Franco-Prussian War collection. Rather than the normal 3 x 40/40mm bases with 12 miniatures per unit I'm now doing 4 x 75/75mm bases with 24-28 figures per unit. My idea is to field larger but fewer units per game, and adopt a company sized rules system, rather than the normal battalion sized standard. Your thoughts are very welcome on this adoption! More pics on the unit can be found on my blog: blackpowdergames.blogspot.se |

They look good. I use 60 x 60mm bases for my 28mm FPW collection. All units are 4 bases, with Prussians have 6 figures to a base and French 5 figures to a base. Cavalry are 2 figures a base and 4 bases a unit I use Neil Thomas's 19th Century Rules for the games. Mike |

Thanks guys, appreciate the kind comment on the minis! @Black Hat Minis: Your standard of 60x60 sounds like a good alternative too. I've used this format for cavalry in other collections with good results. P.S: Love your French Foreign Legion equipment kit. I've bought this to convert Perry Zouaves into Franco-Prussian War Turcos with the correct looking back pack. Cheers, Sören |
