Did any artillery pieces, at any time during the war, have a double trail or were all the guns single trail by 1860.
I'm wondering if any Confederate militia units might have had some 50 year old carriages.

I've never seen any double trail carriages during the war. Everything was single trail.

I agree with Dn Jackson, single trail only.
Except for larger siege mortars.

I have never seen nor heard of any double trail carriages during the War. Now in Paraguay….no, I won't hijack the thread.

No. None. Wiard rifles had a very interesting trail, but not a double.

A few of the museum pieces pulled out by state troops early on were on old double trail carriages, reputedly including "Old Sacramento" used by the Missouri State Guard. Otherwise, no.
