Did any artillery pieces, at any time during the war, have a double trail or were all the guns single trail by 1860. I'm wondering if any Confederate militia units might have had some 50 year old carriages. Tom |

I've never seen any double trail carriages during the war. Everything was single trail. |

I agree with Dn Jackson, single trail only. Except for larger siege mortars. |

I have never seen nor heard of any double trail carriages during the War. Now in Paraguay….no, I won't hijack the thread. |

No. None. Wiard rifles had a very interesting trail, but not a double. |

A few of the museum pieces pulled out by state troops early on were on old double trail carriages, reputedly including "Old Sacramento" used by the Missouri State Guard. Otherwise, no. |
