Just started painting my recent purchase of the Warlord games, black powder 28mm British Peninsular line infantry, I gave the model a coat of nun oil wash after I painted my base coat and first highlight, and my finished model seems to have a glossy shine to it, I don't know if this is normal or if there is anyway to stop this from happening? any advice would be greatly appreciated. What is nun oil? You obviously never went to a convent school like I did. @tdotbdot – Nuln Oil is quite shiny in my experience. I generally use it for polished things like gun barrels and stocks. You could try a dull coat of some description to tone that down. Nice fig by the way – looks great. |

With you now. Yes, a coat of matt varnish will solve the problem. Here's how my Brits went. link |

All these washes need much (much) stirring. Then they come out dead matt. Nuln Oil often disappoints me, Ogryn Flesh (no longer exists of course) is the best they ever did. Caltharn flesh is my base coat for everything, I have a quarter of a bottle left…so what did they do? Withdrew it…….. Some washes do dry very patchily….tide marks, eg nuln oil over off white to make a grey horse. Very dilute and flooded is vital. Over and over again….. |
