I'm just getting into ACW after many years of Ancients and Dark Age gaming. I'm reading books, watching YouTube documentaries etc. Absolutely fascinating. I thought I'd start 28mm ACW gaming in a small inexpensive way, building some armies for Neil Thomas's 1 Hour Wargames rules. I started with the EM4 plastic infantry which are very cheap (at least in the UK) supplemented by some Perry plastics. Both (especially the EM4) are naturally proportioned. Are there any metal ranges with similar proportions? I'd assume the Perry metals would work with their plastics – although they look a little chunkier in the photos. Any other ranges out there which would fit? Dixon and Renegade, though nice, are clearly in a different world in terms of proportions. |

I have several corp of 15mm figures. It enables bigger battles and/or more room for manavuer and even starts to look like a sea of men fighting each other. These days, they are starting to come out with very good 10mm figures in almost the same detail as most 15mm. I would definately go with 10mm if I was starting out. |

If you decide to go smaller, I will recommend my own lines Plank Road and Cracker Line.

10mm for me. I kinda wish the 10mm ranges were bigger back when I started collecting in the 80s. My ACW are all 10mm and I don't regret it. If you want to fight battles, you can't beat them for the look. Oh yeah…and ACW Bill has got a great line of miniatures. I've picked up a few packs of ACW cavalry from his shop. They look fabulous. |

Thanks for the responses but sorry if I wasn't clear in my first post – I wanted to know what 28mm metal ranges might fit with the 'correctly' proportioned EM4 and Perry plastics. |

If I didn't already have thousands of 15mm ACW, I would go with ACWbill's Cracker Line and Plank Road 10 mm. They are fantastic. |

HobHood, look at the links in my reply, they are 28mm |

Yes, thanks ACWBill. I was referring to the other messages posted. |

HobHood from memory foundry are close to Perry, I found Elite and Dixon are a bit 'characterful' or cartoony.. a little chunkier.. Renegade were big too.. but easy to paint up.. I have foundry/perry metal and plastic in 28mm and use Toofatlardies Terrible Sharp Sword and tons of Adler 6mm for big battles |

The pic below shows a mix of Sash & Saber and Foundry (sculpted by the Perry twins when they worked there). I think you will find the proportions of Perry's Plastics mix well with Perry, S & S, and old Foundry. I use them together all the time.

ACWBill, thanks for the advice re. S&S and Foundry – I'll look into those ranges. And, yes, great looking figures! |

Very nicely done Jim. The figure with head wrap looks exceptionally well done. |

I just bought my first batch of Sash & Saber figures. Haven't received them yet though. |
