As I understand it, this is the type Hannibal used. However, the books I read say they are extinct. Are they? The reason I ask is I was just watching one of those weird monster programs where they are searching the jungles of Cameroon. There were elephants living in the forests – which the narrator called forest elephants. Are they the same? Or different? |

There was a report in the eighties or nineties that stated that they were still around, but had migrated south and were staying clear of mankind. Now they're extinct! Go figure! |

Forest elephants are not extinct, but the North African elephant is extinct. They are slightly different species. |
