Good morning and welcome to Watchful I Studio's update on our Chinese Warring States project. We have posted digital images in the past and now we finally received our 3D prints in mail. I spent the past week preparing them for you to look at as well as for the caster. Here is a taste of what the prints look like and please keep in mind that the prints are put together using white glue and tack puddy. I can honestly tell you that the pieces fit together beautifully and these miniatures will cast up very well. There are a few pieces missing that will arrive this week. The 'problem pieces' needed to be adjusted and reprinted and I will take some pictures once they arrive and are cleaned. Please forgive me on the quality of the photographs. I am still learning the fine art of photography but I hope the pictures give you a clear idea of what the miniatures will look like. We have 3 bodies for the warriors on foot (unarmored, lightly armored, and fully armored) and they have a wide selection of arms for each type including arms equipped with bows, crossbows, dagger-axes, spears, straight swords, curved swords, and javelins. The left arm is sculpted to the body and there are two different types of shields available for the left arm. Additional bits include a sheathed bow, quiver of arrows, quiver of crossbow bolts, and 25 different heads to choose from. The general also has a myriad of arms to select from including both right and left arms. The general has 4 heads to choose from making a tremendous amount of combinations available between the arms and heads. Our current work in progress are three different chariots including a light chariot, heavy chariot, and a officers chariot. We will be posting some progress of these miniatures as we get closer to completion. We are building up our range of products for a Kickstarter that will launch Monday, March 23 at 12pm EST. In the Kickstarter will be the core troops needed to build a Warring States army including infantry, cavalry, chariots and the officers to lead them. We planning a Wave 2 and Wave 3 which will include mythical beasts and fantasy elements as well as the heavier equipment such as siege bows, war machines, repeating crossbowmen and shield bearers. What you have posted looks pretty good. |

Nice! Will you also produce them with the more typical-looking lobed shields? I don't recall having seen round shields on Warring States Chinese except in some historical dramas. By the way, I think that the word is "putty", not "puddy". |

Thanks guys and we have more arms and options. I just wanted to give everyone a taste. I will get some more options photographed this week before I send all the parts to the caster. The lobed shields are sculpted but the piece was sculpted too thin to be in the initial print run. I should be receiving the lobed shields tomorrow or Wednesday. I will take pictures. The round shield was a Hollywood thing that we added in to use for light infantry or skirmishers. The way we will be offering the range you will be able to pick which shields you use. You are right. It is putty and puddy. I guess I can smile because if that is the only negative comment about my post then I am a happy camper. :) hehehehe Thanks for the notice and correction. Perhaps you should edit our rulebook when we start on that. :) Joe |

Great idea. Are the figures going to be plastic, resin, or metal? |

Finally a new early Chinese Range! Should be ready in time for me to finish my Hypothetical Alexandrian invasion army. |

Thanks for the kind words guys. The initial launch of the product range will be in metal. Depending on the success of the Kickstarter will depend on if we produce anything in plastic. Thanks. @ Crazyivanov – I don't want to give away too many details but you read my mind. :) |

Figure sculpting is superb, and I realise these may only be test shots, but are you going to vary the poses , they look rather static at the moment. A greater variety of active poses would really enhance what looks to have the potential of being an outstanding range. |

These should do well. My only hope is will have good heft(e.g. Aventine, Victrix) and not be to slim. |

Thanks Johny Boy and colin knight. The initial range will be in the marching pose. I realize it is rather static but there are several reasons why we selected the marching pose. We have been experimenting with more dynamic poses for future product but we wanted consistency through the range. Based on the popularity of the army we could and would like to add in 'fighting' poses but since we have never released a product before we have to take things in baby steps. The miniatures are in proportion and I think they are in alignment with Victrix. They are very similar in height and size to the new Wargames Factory AWI plastics. Perhaps I will take a picture of our miniatures next to some other companies to give you an idea. |

Another quick update for you regarding the missing pieces that finally arrived and were cleaned. The dagger-axe arms, armored curved sword arm and the odd shaped shield are the new additions. We also added a handful of new arms for the General. The pieces are going off to the caster tomorrow. link |

I like the nice upright uniform poses just as regulars should look. I don't like spears all jabbing forward as they break off and are harder to line up. Iregulars are different for attacking poses. But some Celts these days are so animated it looks like they are dancing or squatting for the toilet. Just my opinion :) |

Yeah, I don't really have a problem with the poses. They actually look quite natural to me- not hyper-active. |
