There was a detachment under Baum and a battalion under Breymann. Were they British LI or were they German fusiliers? I haven't been able to find anything definite. |

Brunswickers but not "fusiliers". The Brunswickers had no fusiliers in America. The von Barner light infantry battalion had musketeers and jaegers. The jaegers were usually detached. |

Thanks – going through a couple of uniform books, I realized it must be v. Barner. I appreciate the confirmation and additional detail. |

There were actually some very small detachments of light troops and jaeger (as well as some men from the line regiments and a few grenadiers) with Baum's command. However, the major parts of the Grenadier Battalion Breymann and the Light Battalion Barner – including the rest of the jaeger – were with Breymann's relief column which was not engaged until late afternoon. Baum's command was mainly his own dragoons, plus the above small detachments, about 50 British riflemen under Capt Fraser, two groups of Tories – some from Burgoyne's army (probably uniformed) and the majority recruited locally who were in civvies, and a bunch of Iroquois. |
