"The 1980's science fiction would owe much to the popularity of Star Wars and Star Trek that shaped the types of sci-fi works that were published or produced, and one among these was 1984's The Last Starfighter. While some may write off this little military science fiction as one of the many clones of Star Wars, it had heart, a clever little story, and an awesome space fighter in the Gunstar. When this film came out, I was eight, and deeply in love with science fiction and the stars in the Alabama sky, and this film spoke to me. While I've not seen this film in twenty years, I decided it was high time that FWS discuss The Last Starfighter in this installment of Fogotten Classics. So, here we go, joining the Star League to defend the frontier against the Ko-Dan Armada…" Full article here link Do you remember it? I do! Amicalement Armand |

I have the movie on DVD and it is a good movie. Liked it but my tech side kicked in when I saw the defense satellites on the boarder of the "Islands" and made a rough estimate of how many there had to be (EEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!!!!) per square light year. Scott |

Fun little movie--I enjoyed it when it came out. Ever since then, I've always wondered about video games and reporting scores… Rob |

If they redid the CGI it would be awesome. Not a chance though from what I have heard. |

Same here – the dialogue at the end as the Ko-Dan flagship is about to crash into the moon has become a classic exchange between fans 'in the know': "We're locked into the moon's gravitational pull! What do we do?" Tzzz-ooh (little dropdown lens thing lowers into place over the Admiral's eye) "We die." Classic stuff indeed :) |

The Blu-Ray the released a couple years ago looks great. The CGI effects were not re-done but they do look a lot brighter and better than any other verison that I have seen. |

I was a late comer to watching it (hunted it down online back in college) but I do live it. Cheesy, but *very* fun. -Will |

Likewise, my VHS copy wore out. I still have the dvd copy, though and a ripped one on my HD. It took a day to render EACH FRAME of that animation, back in the day – using a cray Y-MP. Jurassic park sure changed the game on the nature of that exercise. |
