I was just emailed today by Owen Edwards, a 27 year old Civil War buff hailing from England. Owen has done a lot of research on the orders of battle for 1865, particularly on the Confederate side. He has just launched a new blog called "Lucifer in Starlight – ACW 1865 Orders of Battle": link This one bears keeping an eye on. If he continues with his current format, I have to believe it'll prove useful for miniatures wargamers. |

I wonder why it's called "Lucifer in Starlight"? |

"With memory of the old revolt from Awe, He reached a middle height, and at the stars, Which are the brain of heaven, he looked, and sank. Around the ancient track marched, rank on rank, The army of unalterable law" Lucifer in Starlight (part thereof) George Meredith 1828 – 1909 |

I followed the link which has brought me such enormous traffic the last 3 days and it led me here! I'm really grateful Brett posted this here, and really glad it's looking good to you guys. The name is from the poem, yes, though filtered by a chapter title of Shelby Foote's Civil War. The poem is about Satan's despair at the entire order of the universe being arrayed against him, as Trajanus' quote indicates. I'm thinking about publishing stuff about the Department of Alabama, Mississippi, East Louisiana, and West Florida next, with information about the Mobile Campaign and the first half of Wilson's Raid. I could possibly follow that by publishing stuff about the US Department of the Cumberland to match. Or I could do slightly less wide-ranging but more specific OOBs about Wilson's Raid (which took into 3 large skirmishes/small battles and a couple more very small incidents). What might people appreciate most? |

The Dept. of the Cumberland late 64-65 would be most interesting, considering all the influx of forces used to help Thomas create an army in order to fend off Hood and later launch Wilson would be a good fit…IMHO. What say the others? |

So I guess we'll be aiming at the Alabama front next then! That'll be Taylor's Department on the Confed side, and Canby Smith and Thomas' Departments. I'll see if I can't do some stuff from late 1864 for Thomas, too. |

In the next week I'll be posting up the CSA Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana; as a sort of teaser, I've uploaded the very brief OOB for the CSA Department of Western Kentucky (link) |
