Hi All I am finally starting my masses of Austrians and Hungarians for 1866 in 28mm. Normally what I do is to print out a document with photos and illustrations and then go through my paint collection and try to match up a base, middle and highlight colour to match. Im just wondering – on the off chance – has anyone done a painting guide? If so it would save me a few hours! Thanks all |

If you are looking for books, the two Osprey volumes titled THE AUSTRIAN ARMY 1836-1866 by Darko Pavlovic are excellent. Although I have not seen a copy, there is also THE AUSTRIAN ARMY IN THE CAMPAIGN OF 1866, THE: Organisation, Uniforms, tactics, Commanders published in 2012 by Stuart Sutherland. |

Thanks – I have those books theyre excellent. I am a little dissapointed to open my Northstar Austrians and discover theyre all in great coats. I was hoping for lots of whites and blue, but now theyll all be grey! My only hope is the ones wearing the Grenz style cap – is there any flexibility there? I read they were the last to get new items, so is there any historical possibility of doing them in white great coats?? :) |

Nooooooooo! The Austrians were in Greatcoat Order throughout 1866, the officers could wear the coat open thereby showing the white jacket but not the men (who weren't wearing one anyway). |
