Hi, A few weeks back I received my Forged In Battle V2 rocket (15mm). I'm getting ready to paint it but it is sculpted with smoke on the base. It is a really nice looking model and want to create it as an objective marker for FOW. I've never painted smoke and was curious how to go about it. Was thinking of something as simple as painting white and then using a gray wash several times. Basically redo the wash a number of times but each time start lower; get some sort of gradient effect. How do you paint smoke? Looking for other methods. Thanks |

Sounds good, but don't forget streaks of red, orange and yellow where the flames should be. |

It requires the same determined mindset as nailing jelly to the ceiling. |

How do you paint smoke? You can't. It doesn't stay still long enough! |

I think you have the right idea as far as the painting goes. You might add a little blue or brown to the bottom area to darken it down. From films of the V2 it appears to be all light colored. How about a pic when you are finished? |

I think you've answered your own question. I think I'd be tempted to choose quite 'warm' greys and, as you say start off light at the top and either wash or glaze darker and darker to the bottom. The idea of some 'light 'n' fire' depends on the moulding I guess but if the recesses are deep enough you can paint some red/orange/yellow/white in there and then wash/glaze the smoke over the top. |

Thanks to everyone who pointed out my genius :>). Phil, I'll post a pic once done. And to the comedians. As Gilda Radner once said to Bill Murray as Todd; That was so funny I forgot to laugh. The recesses on the smoke don't appear to be deep. Also the model is sitting on top of the little stand that a V2 sat on before being fired. With the smoke enveloping most of said stand. link |
