I see Harlock has traded up… ;) |

I'm liking the station alot. I need to scratchbuild an Insectoid station, but haven't stumbled across any parts that inspire me yet. Your post has given me some extra incentive to intensify my searching. :) |

Excellent job. It reminds me a little of Niska's space station in Firefly. Will have to keep an eye out for good looking tops from jars myself. |

billclo, your insectoids, do they rely upon biotech or mechanical metal-based materials technology for their architecture? If biotech, look in the floral department in your local craft store for large seed pods as the basic building block, especially the type that resembles a large, dark brown wasp's nest… If mechanical tech, consider using a large plastic snowflake ornament as your baseline, then add bits and bobs from there, and finish in a metallic green or blue (or both) finish perhaps to mimic a beetle's carapace. Just some food for creative thought. Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net |

Martin, ya know, I do have an Arcadia model I need to build…. I've been procrastinating on it because I cannot make up my mind whether to build the darn thing as is, or saw off the 18th century sailing ship stern and replace it with a large starfighter hangar bay and flight deck… decisions, decisions, decisions… Leland R. Daricles, Kropotkin303, thank you! You'd be surprised what sort of excellent orbital "space junk" can be built out of stacked plastic caps and bottle tops… I have some weapon satellites and other, smaller orbital stations I need to photograph, so stay tuned… Leland R. Leland, The Insectoids are mechanical based. Because their base station is modular (central core plus 3 modules), I had been considering using some plastic hexagonal containers of some sort. I haven't had time for an extensive search to locate any yet. Probably something about 2-2.5" wide by something similar tall. Nonetheless, the plastic snowflake is a good idea, maybe as a backup? |

You're right; I need to look at the blog first, always. I was just about to ask if you weren't worried that in a hot car, those M&M's might fail. ;->= Doug |

Craft stores like Michael's also have wooden snowflakes, maybe 3-4" across. I have a bunch on hand to serve as the basis of space station platforms someday. |
