A Brazilian police raid to recover stolen cars and cargo came up with a more interesting find: two war tanks.Police in Brazil's biggest city said Tuesday that the engine-less tanks were found inside a warehouse in Sacoma, a low-income district in São Paulo. Police also confiscated 500 television sets, car body parts and a recently stolen semitrailer truck. Army officers told the UOL Internet portal that the two tanks found Monday did not belong to the Army and that their origin would be investigated. Officials did not say what sort of tanks they were or how old they might be. Images published by local media show a treaded vehicle with five road wheels on each side… link |

It's a retired M41 Walker Bulldog from the Brazilian army stripped of its engine and other parts in another article which showed the actual tank. link The linked article just used a stock photo of a tank on display. It's not even Brazilian going by the markings (Polish I think). |

Yeah, I thought it was an M24 Chaffee but wasn't sure. Walker Bulldog sounds much more likely. link And yes the T34 is a stock photo. |

Just another case of the media doing shabby reporting … Now how can you believe anything else in the article ? Yes, that is an M41 upgunned … check out this link It backs up what 28mm posted … By March 1985, 386 M41 tanks had been upgraded by Bernardini for the Brazilian Army. The Brazilian Marine Corps ordered 35 M41C tanks, these being M41Bs with an up-to-date fire-control system and the 90 mm Ca 76/90 M32 BR3 gun. The army and marine conversion programme is now complete, with final deliveries in 1990. In 1997, Brazil stated that it had a total of 287 M41 light tanks in service. In 1991, Bernardini completed the modernisation of 22 M41 light tanks for Uruguay along similar lines to that carried out for the Brazilian Army. These have a Cockerill 90 mm gun. Based on my experience in the ARMY, who signed for these ?!? |
