"Russia's envoy to the European security watchdog OSCE urged the United States and Europe on Thursday to stop supporting the "party of war" in Ukraine and warned "catastrophe" could result, Interfax news agency reported. "I would like to appeal to the states that have influence on Kiev's leadership, most of all to Washington. It's time to stop indulging Ukraine's party of war," said Russia's OSCE envoy, Andrei Kelin. "Only a big catastrophe can result from such developments." Russia has increasingly blamed the United States and NATO for the flare-up in violence in eastern Ukraine. The West accuses Moscow of feeding a pro-Russian insurgency with guns and soldiers…" Full article here link link Also… Gorbachev: US dragging Russia into new Cold War, which might grow into armed conflict link EU would have to respond to large military offensive in Ukraine: Steinmeier link Ukraine looking more like Poland on the brink of World War Two

Cold War, yes. Hot War, nope. I know that everyone is moaning about the sad shape of NATO and Western militaries, but Russia's military is in much worse shape. They're using everything they have just to prop-up the Ukrainian rebels. Just Putin's brinksmanship. Used to work more, but with the sad shape of their economy, the crash of the ruble and oil prices, Russia isn't in any position to fight a modern military. |

Gorby's been bleating on about this for some time, while various Russian leaders/representatives continue to drone on about how they can nuke Europe and the USA, in less than 30 minutes, including Putin, himself. Yes, it's all our fault in the West that we forced Putin's hand, and caused him to invade, and annex Crimea, and now, Eastern Ukraine. And, of course, that little Georgian debacle was all our fault too. It's apparently good for domestic consumption though. More vodka, please……. |

There is talk about legislation in congress allowing the US to sell LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) to Europe. If this were allowed it could be a disaster for Russia. Also read that Poland just ordered more Leopard II tanks to the point where all Soviet tanks will be phased out. I wonder if Ukraine would be interested in refurbished ex Polish tanks. |

Maybe not a hot war with tanks but it's already happening on the economic front. A lot of the recent tension can be attributed to Russian and Iranian attempts to undermine the petrodollar. link |

Apparently, NATO is planning to send small packets of troops to the border nations, and those requirements from the various other nations should be known soon. Even France is sending some, but it doesn't appear they'll be there for long, if the article was correct. Claims were that 200 "exercises" have been run of late, as a response to Russia's aggressive posture, rhetoric, and aerial patrolling. |

Wow, those penny packets from the 5,000 man Rapid Reaction Force are smaller than even I anticipated! Just saw a news clip which mentions 50 men will be sent to each of the six countries, to serve as the RRF Control Groups in each of them (300 men, in total). |
