Spider Monkey Games is running their Kickstarter campaign for Terminus Gate, their scenario-driven sci-fi skirmish game. Players build their forces of space privateers and must work to complete contracts in order to gain riches and experience. The game sounds much like Gorka-Morka or Mordheim, where your crew progresses and changes as you play more games, becoming more experienced and gaining new abilities and gear. So if you like that style of game, give them a look. link Main page link Amicalement Armand |

It does look attractive, although I'm not much of a crowdfund pledger. I regret not getting into Gorkamorka, Necromunda or Mordheim back when they were all the rage (or even Star Mogul or AE Bounty, though those weren't nearly as high-profile or as long-lived) so this might be a fine opportunity to finally go in for one of these campaign-oriented gang/crew warfare games. On the other hand, representing upgrades and injuries on figures and retiring "dead" figures mid-campaign has always seemed deeply impractical to me. As for building a spaceship/station interior, the pros (could be an exciting project) and the cons (don't need more terrain-building projects) cancel each other out. So… going to hold off for now but keep checking back on how much attention and support it's getting from the community. Like Gorkamorka, Necromunda and Mordheim, this is precisely the sort of game that could be described as "popularity sensitive". Due to the structural requirements of the campaign system, collecting and playing Necromunda these days simply isn't the same as doing it back when everyone had a gang or two and some underhive terrain to chip in (not that it wouldn't be fun nowadays as a "retro" style project, but even so, it's probably a different experience). |

Hah, I remember Star Mogul. I even picked up a set of Hydrissans after meeting the sculptor at a con. Star Mogul (at least Ruins of an Empire and Distant Worlds) seemed like a pretty decent skirmish game. As far as Terminus Gate, I have to say that I don't like 3D printed sculptures, at least for individuals (they are fine for vehicles). The proportions and shapes are all too perfect… I feel like I am looking at the Vitruvian Man and not a model of a real creature. I much prefer hand sculpted miniatures for that scale (because they're imperfect!). |

I liked Star Mogul too. Good little game. And I met the sculptor as well, at a Con here in MA. Like it or not, I think 3D printing is going to become industry standard. Methinks, Boutique outfits like Hasslefree will always be around, but increasingly niche. And speaking of HF, I'm waiting on metal casts of a bunch of new sculpts. |

I suppose the association to Star Mogul might be an appropriate one here. Same basic premise to the setting (and gameplay, as far as I can tell), although the aesthetic is sleeker and a bit less grimy. At least, the Hydrissians and Mephalians from Star Mogul could easily fit in aesthetically among the aliens pictured on that Kickstarter page. |
