I've been thinking of publishing one of my settings, which is a hard science fiction campaign. Unfortunately, I have no artwork for it. Since I can't afford an artist, I'll have to find something in the public domain. But it's not easy to find hard science fiction art. The art I've found are more suited to space opera or pulp SF Can anyone suggest where to look? Thanks in advance. |

Ask some artists. You'd be amazed how many will contribute a piece or two. |

Just FYI, deviantart is not open source. But, as LordNth points out, you might be able to contact a few artists who would let you use the art, with proper accreditation. I actually have some on DA pieces bookmarked that might be what you're looking for. I'll see what I can do later today. -Will |

apparently most of NASA's released photos are public domain link "Hornstein: All of the media produced by NASA is public domain, meaning that anyone can use it any way (as long as they obey restrictions of publicity and privacy). " nasaimages.org |

I would think that many of the struggling artists on DeviantArt are more than willing to license their artwork for a tiny royalty or even just credit. |

Try getting in contact with Winchell Chung, of Atomic Rockets fame (if you're writing hard SF and not using that site, you should be!), he might be able to help. |

Also, what do need? Characters, hardware, space scenes, all of the above and then some? -Will |

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try to contact a few people. I knew Winchell from the HERO Boards. I haven't heard from him in a long time, though. But his website is a valuable resource, which I've used quite a bit. But here's a partial list of the artwork that would come in handy: Realistic spacecraft and space stations Colonies around the solar system, maps would be helpful Living and working in space Futuristic buildings and city plans I'll probably have to create any blueprints myself. |

My campaign is set in the near future, so a few modern-day images would also work. In terms of looks and technology, my setting is closer to Firefly and the Battlestar Galactica reboot than to Star Trek. |
