Hi

I'm currently building an Ace 1/72 RSO w Flak.38, pictured above as it is at the time of posting.

I'm blogging the build here:

I ain't finished yet, by a long stretch, and already it's been tough! I'd appreciate input/feedback, and especially anything from others who've built this or similar models (of the RSO, that is), whatever the scale.

Cheers, Seb.

Thanks Seb. The struggle you described in your blog is very familiar to me. I stayed away from any kit with photo-etched tracks after my local model shop described them to me, though I have bought many limited run kits with wheels!

I have heard that the tracks are easier to handle if you anneal them first. Personally I don't mind rubber band or link and length tracks, and I don't understand why ACE went to all the trouble of making them.

The only RSO I have is a white metal kit by the now extinct Skytrex. It went together quickly and made a passable model. I believe that 20mm Zone took over the business but I don't see the RSO on their website at present.

Nice work by the way. I built?(persevered)the tow version of the RSO. The chassis went together like a dream, wheels and even tracks. The cab, well that was another story! It looks like its hit and miss with ACE kits whether you get one that fits well or not. But I actually find them worthwhile to battle through.

Ugh…I still have the remains of a failed RSO-1 out in the spares box, destined to become one with a heap of factory rubble. I took one look at the photo etched tracks and thought "no way – what were they thinking?"

I bought a die cast one (Altaya?) from ebay which was noticeably smaller, but did the job so much better so I settled on buying those to haul my Pak guns around.

I commend your determination and skills!
