Ok, I'll admit I'm being cheap here, but has anyone tried making a block of 3 terraced houses out of 2 of these kits ? link I'm thinking of buildings for the table edge rather than the centre, so if I leave the backs open and only fix one roof panel on each, one of the spare back walls could be used as the front of the middle one of a block of three. I would then use the other spare ‘roof' as an upper floor for the middle house. Obviously I need to fix the whole terrace to a base to give stability, but London is a city of terraced houses and to get a genuine ‘street' feel I'm going to need several blocks of 3 as a minimum. If it works I might even upgrade to a block of 5 made from 3 kits. Anyone else tried this ? |

Thought about it and have planned it out, with balsa ends and roof pieces…..but the low price of some of the kits makes it quicker and easier to buy an extra kit or two….. These guys have some affordable 'table fillers'…….this building would give a 'terrace' especially if 'doubled' by re-using the long wall……..just add doorways to suit…. auction |

Have you looked at warbases houses.. they offer deals, are great value, and have quite a footprint.. (including back yards… ) |

Seems to me you could easily cut a few pieces out of other material, for the walls. Cutting MDF accurately might prove a bit more challenging, since it is rather dense. Roofing would be a little harder, but you could leave open spaces due to battle damage from artillery fire. |

I'm doing something similar at the moment – a row of facades made out of foamcore to be light and rigid, then plastered with a skim of, erm, plaster or glued / sprayed sand for a stone finish, with Warbases windows and doors andalso ttheir roofing tile sheets glued onto thin mdf sloping roofs. Foamcore is good as its light, so a tall thin structure can be fixed to an mdf base without tipping over. It can't really be painted "raw" though in my admittedly limited experience I'll try and post a WiP pic at some point (if I remember) |

You really need three house fronts to pull off three houses. Unless you are willing to convert a side or back into a front, at which point, you just might as well make all of them on your own. I agree that you can use something other than the kit for the walls between houses, but think you should use kit walls for the ends. If you want to leave the backs open, that also is fine. The result, you need three kits, and have four side and three back walls left over. Four sides and two backs (with one back left over) make a nice L house … BTW, I am the King of Cheap(tm)… |
