I have the Osprey A Fistful of Kung Fu set and would like to expand them to include more Fantasy elements. I know that A Fistful is "based on" the Song of Blades system, but before I buy SOBH, I'm curious: how easy it would be to integrate the two sets? For those of you that have both rules-- would this be fairly straightforward? Is there a points system in SOBH like in AFKF, and are they compatible? Is the stat line in SOBH composed of Q and C? It seems like this would be the bare minimum to make it doable. Thanks!

SBH is a smaller, simpler game. I'd say it's just the bare bones of Fistful. I like it a lot, but I can only think of 2 things that are in the basic SBH but not in Fistful:

-SBH doesn't have "effects". You either retreat, fall or die. I think this is faster and more fun.

-SBH has a more complex point system. You can find it in their website. Note that only the pink skills are included in the basis rules:

The rest is pretty much the same, but without the Kung Fu flavour: no gun fu rules, no chi powers, no special terrain…

if you send me an email listing what fantasy elements you would like to add, I might write them up in AFOKF rules and publish them in the next issue of my Talespinner magazine ( issue 2 already has some AFOKF content- some new terrain types and rules for caltrops ) . link

Yes, absolutely amazing, and super quick! I'll have to think about specific requests. I very much like the AFKF rules and the reaction system and don't want to reduce it to something simpler. I'm trying to do some fantasy style Wuxia stuff using these rules, however.

As I don't know exactly what SOBH contains, it's hard for me to point to specific things that I would like written up. Probably the most useful would be some way to do generic conversions for adding spells and/or creatures, so I can take advantage of all the material that's been created for SOBH. I am perfectly willing to invest some money in SOBH if there's some way I can convert it for AFKF easily. That's what I was really driving at with my original post. It would be quite a time-saver.

In any case, Andrea if I come up with anything specific I will certainly email you. Thanks much!
