Just got an email from CL&P (Connecticut Light and Power) about tomorrows storm.

If I lose power I should call them or send them an email from my computer.

Huh???

I think you should do that before you lose your service, just to be sure you can comply with their request.

Cell phone? Smart phone? Laptop? Tablet?

Of course, given the severity of the storm headed your way there's a decent chance that cell towers might lose power too…

Recently I was explaining to the young people how corded landline phones used to remain functional even when the power was out. They were actually impressed that old tech had any advantages over new. Of course, none of them had ever used a landline. Ever.

I know. I was just being a smartass. grin

Unfortunately my "land line" is connected via my cable. Plus the phones themselves are cordless.

When the power goes out…

There goes my cable and there goes my phone connection and there goes my internet and the phones themselves don't work.

Almost forgot to add, "…or not".

This is why I went back to a landline(no cordless). I also stopped using a message machine. Amazed at how many family and friends hate that but I grew up without this instant access, three buttons from anywhere, instant gratification, no clue advisement 'stuff'.

A good old landline is so important from a safety standpoint. I have actually seen situations where folks had to run to a neighbor to report a fire when their power went out, because they lost power to their cordless. Still some benefits to keeping a landline even if just for emergencies.

"If I lose power I should call them or send them an email from my computer."

They're just thinking of the welfare of all those poor homing pigeons; They'd never survive flying through that kind of weather.
