hi guys
is there a way to strengthen paper soldiers ,i downloaded some for my nephew ,I have printed them on card stock but i think they are a bit weak ,i tried a coat of varnish ,slight improvement, so what do you strengthen them with.

JimDuncanUK25 Jan 2015 2:41 p.m. PST

Throw them away and buy a box or two of plastic figures. They are not that expensive.

It is for your nephew after all.

its temporary till we can build up metal fig collection (just to fill out the gaps)

Brush-on liquid superglue will stiffen them right up, if you soak it into the cardstock on the back side.

Perhaps you could try laminating them. There's no need to purchase a fancy laminating machine, just get some clear adhesive film used for lining shelves, etc. (It's generically referred to as "contact paper".) It's probably easiest to print out the figures on card and then just cover the entire card on both sides before cutting out the individual figures. This should make them a lot stiffer and it will protect the ink from smudging.

Either use 300gsm paper, or normal 200gsm but with a layer of 1-1.5mm cardboard sandwiched in between. The latter method will require considerably more build time, but it's worth it as far as I am concerned.

thanks guys
going with son of liberty suggestion contact paper has added a little more stiffness but has made a nice finish which we both like

@jimduncanUK… I think that plastic models cost above all for the time you spend to paint them. And I don't think it's possible to recreate a 1:1 ratio battle.
My papersoldiers stand very well : 140gr sheet, folded and glued to another 140 gr sheet (so 280 gr!) plus if you want spray for the hair…
