So as the subject says, what rules are you using for 28mm sci-fi and why. I'm using FUBAR and Warzone 1st edition. FUBAR for its simplicity and inherent flexibility and Warzone because it's just a great game for pulpy, cinematic action. Other favorites of mine are In The Emperor's Name and Fast and Dirty 4th Edition, for that DIY flexibility. |

My band of gaming buddies haven't played as much 28 mm sci-fi as we used to, however for the last year or so we've been using mostly Tomorrow's War or Quadrant 13 as our go to rules. Prior to that we used FUBAR or mongoose publishing's starship troopers. One of my gaming buddies, is involved in the beta testing for beyond the gates of Antares, so we may give those rules are trying the near future. |

We have mostly been playing Infinity lately, and a lot of it. However I feel like I might be up for a game of 40K soon. |
Black Cavalier | 24 Jan 2015 2:28 p.m. PST |
In the emperor's name because it allows us to use our 40k figures without having to play 40k. |

Firefight 2.0, grid based. A good game, scenarios always provide a tense match up. Also just started with Across the Dead Earth for PA games. Seems pretty good. |
sneakgun | 24 Jan 2015 2:53 p.m. PST |
Infinity because it was free but I like having books. There is also a free 40K with Bolt Action rules we may try. |

We've several at the club. Most of them lean toward the fast-play, but not all. -Instead of big games of 40k with our old armies, we play Warpath 1.0. Big fun zany games with a 40k universe feel, but 1/10th as many rules . -Platoon Hard Sci-Fi: Tomorrow's War. IMHO, it's a really poorly organized book, but once you get the hang of it, it's a reasonably smooth playing sci-fi system with a more "realistic" feel. -Platoon+ light vehicles Sci-Fantasy: WarEngine. A good flexible system that gives a 40k/warzone/void feel. -Sci-Fi Pulp Warband: In The Emperor's name. Really simple straitforward system. Based in the 40k universe, but a good generic sci-fantasy skirmish system. A member of our club is also working up a great Sci-Fi Warband system called "The Dogs and The Dust" that combines a bit of SBH and Blood Bowl and other bits. The results are pretty cool so far. link |

Savage Worlds-like the card system and combat mechanics |
Privateer4hire | 24 Jan 2015 3:27 p.m. PST |
Deadzone. It's got a cool core concept but the forces needed more playtesting before release and the book needed more editing including layout. |
PatrickWR | 24 Jan 2015 3:33 p.m. PST |
Privateer, that's not much of a glowing recommendation for Deadzone. Why are you playing it? |
tmason | 24 Jan 2015 3:35 p.m. PST |
I pretty much exclusively play star grunt for sci fi. |
Privateer4hire | 24 Jan 2015 3:49 p.m. PST |
PatrickWR, the core is decent enough and a handful of local players actually play DZ. The only alterative in 28mm sci-fi locally is 40k and I'm not going down that road again. |
Dentatus | 24 Jan 2015 5:20 p.m. PST |
'Cleared to Engage' home brew rules. A simple set of wargame rules for folks who aren't wargamers. |
Pizzagrenadier | 24 Jan 2015 8:52 p.m. PST |
We've been playing a lot of modified Disposable Heroes: Point Bkank for 40k and sci fi skirmish (Rogue Trader style) and modified Disposable Heroes & Coffin for Seven Brothers for bigger 40k games. The rules work well, it's just taken a little work to port over the stats and weapons. |

Playtesting Beyond the Gates of Antares. The beta is available for free from Warlord Games; we don't pay a great deal of attention to the army lists, since they are pretty vanilla. LT |

Our gang is getting into Infinity N3 here. Got my army ready, just need to find the time to play! -Tim |

As Skippy said Savage Worlds but I'd love to get back into No Limits if we had a use for it. Had fun with orcs using No Limits. |
David Johansen | 25 Jan 2015 11:29 a.m. PST |
Warpath and Warzone Resurrection mostly. I'd like to do Tomorrow's war and Beyond the Gates of Antares sometime. |
blackfang | 25 Jan 2015 2:22 p.m. PST |
Deadzone, Mars Attacks, Relic Knights, and my own 40k build that adds reactions, suppression and all that popular modern stuff link |

@ Orginary Bass- another great read. Your crew has such outstanding terrain. I look forward to learning more about these rules @ Blackfang bookmarked that page. Didn't have much time let to delve, but definitely something I'm interested in. |

I forgot to mention that for over-the-top mech action, we also occasionally play Mech Attack in 28mm on a really big table. It's a great game with alot of BT'ish elements (heat, customizable weapons, damage grid, etc) but in a very rules-lite system that plays in 1/4 the time. Thanks Capt, Glad you enjoyed it. I'm also looking forward to seeing how the rules develop. |
Lion in the Stars | 25 Jan 2015 7:37 p.m. PST |
Infinity. Slowly learning the new edition, playing small scenarios focused around using, say, the hacking rules (last night) or close combat (next Saturday, I think). I have a LOT of Infinity minis, but I basically don't have enough to really play a game of Tomorrow's War using Infinity minis. At most, one fireteam of any given unit. Got lots of 15mm scifi minis instead. |

DUST, FUBAR & 40K. Dust because its WWW2 and I likes that :), 40K because I've been playing it for ages, and FUBAR as its a good set for playing any 28mm Sci Fi force vs any other at more than skirmish scale You can get a decent FUBAR game with c 40K levels of troops on table in an afternoon or evening. Tried Gruntz, its better for skirmish. About to start playing In Her Majetsy;s Name (Steampunk skirmish) |
alien BLOODY HELL surfer | 30 Jan 2015 6:24 a.m. PST |
Fubar and the excellent Pulp Alley at the moment. |
