…Samuel Adams and Paul Revere Unveiled. "Last month, workers repairing a leak at the Massachusetts State House in Boston uncovered a time capsule originally placed in the building's cornerstone in 1795. It took conservators from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts nearly seven hours to remove the box from its encasing; it was later transported to the museum to be X-rayed and thoroughly examined. Yesterday, in a press conference at the museum, officials from the museum and the Massachusetts Archives opened the time capsule and revealed its contents—some 220 years after it was originally planted. Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and other dignitaries were on hand to witness the opening of one of the nation's oldest time capsules yesterday evening (January 6) in the Art of the Americas wing at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (MFA). Standing in front of a large painting of George Washington on horseback in 1776 (Thomas Sully's "The Passage of the Delaware"), museum conservator Pam Hatchfield removed the screws from the corners of the brass box and carefully extracted its contents using tools including a porcupine quill and a dental pick that belonged to her grandfather…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |
