Just a quick report on a scenario book by one of our own on TMP – Brad Butkovich.
I have to confess I was totally ignorant of Brad's books until I saw the recent postings on the "Road to Atlanta" book and then hunting around I found the above which is for made up scenarios rather than historic ones.
The book has eleven games with excellent clear maps each drawn in two different scales. Along with these, each game has an excellent matrix for both sides showing the actual strength of each unit and how this is represented in five popular figure scales.
In addition there detailed sections on Background, Terrain, Deployment, Victory Conditions etc . a Game Overview and Optional Rules for each game.
The games themselves are designed for rules where the Regiment is the smallest unit on table but could easily be adapted for Brigades being the basic unit.
Overall presentation is clean and easy to follow and the games are set up to cover right across the period of the war. The terrain requirements should be within the scope of most gamers – with the possible exception of some railroad track in one game but of course that could be faked if you didn't fancy a trip to the local store to splash out on some real track!
Most certainly takes the sweat out of dreaming up club or indvidual games and what's more no one can accuse you of rigging the game in advance.
So a big thumbs up for Brad's book, looking forward to the first game!
