Dear All Have had success at cutting 2mm (& 1.8mm) Acrylic for some windows, do you think it is worth me doing them as an item? Sizes looking at 16 & 20mm Rounds, possibly a 25-30mm slot bases Regards MMG. |

Sure, Litko makes some, why not you? (might not be same sizes but the more choices, the better) |

I don't know if slot bases would be worth the effort. The times I've seen clear bases the effect was great because there was nothing blocking the view below. |

I would be afraid the bases would get scratched and ugly when well used. I have even seen ugly bases on figures in the glossies and on line. |

I used clear bases before (I made my own), really didn't work well so I went back to opaque colored bases. |

I use clear acrylic bases as "sabots" when base size matters and my original basing doesn't work. For example, I usually game WWII with 15mm minis using Command Decision rules. Bases are generally 20mm square. Sometime I want to run Megablitz where my preference (rules don't much care, but I do) is for a 40-50mm wide base. So I just pop one or more 20mm wood flocked base on the 40mm clear acrylic base using a spot of glue. Glue is good enough to hold on during gaming and easy to remove with a twist and pull. Some folks use sabots for other periods as well to avoid difficult re-basing issues. |

One of the newer offerings for Litko clear acrylic slotta bases is for paper miniatures. I bought (quite) a few and my only wish was that they had more sizes. The offerings were 20mm square, 25mm square, and 25mm x 50mm. An offering of 15mm DBA bases (40mm wide by 15mm – 40mm deep) with multiple slots cut into the base would allow for paper DBA armies and other rules that use that (or no fixed) basing scheme. Extremely niche, I know, but still useful for those that want portable mass-battle games, and something Litko does not do. Litko is also very expensive when it comes to custom jobs. |

I used some dark acrylic bases for my ACW figures. Based 10 years or so ago. I have found that with use and age the entire figure grass/flocking is starting to pull away. I even scratched each bases for better adhesion. I've never had a problem like this with wood bases. |

Having just looked in acrylic basing, I did find that there are different grades of acrylics including scratch resistant. In fact if you look online you will find a few shops that will cut to order anything you want. I'm fortunate to have one about 3 miles from my house. You can pick over their scrap plastics of all kinds and get substantial savings. |
