OK, I took everybody's input to heart and gave getting a ship with that "French Look" another try. See if this is a little closer; link Input Please! |

A bit more French. You might try a pre-WWI paint scheme with the black hulls and cream upper works. But really nicely done in any case! |

Can't tell you how to paint it, but it looks pretty cool. |

No ram bow? I was under the impression that a significant number of French pre-dreads had very prominent ram bows. And I still think the tumblehome section is too tall. Got any 1" foam instead of the 2" foam you used? |

Lion, I could run it through the cutter and slice an inch or so off the bottom, the biggest problem is that the Proxxon unit doesn't go much past 45 degrees and at one inch thick there simply isn't much tumble-home. The ram bow will be added with a bit of plywood to hold the profile and for added strength, blue board simply isn't very tough in thin sections. |

Everybody's critique aside, what is that "best friend" drafting tool you're using? Maybe I'm daft…. The reason I'm asking is that I am a pastor in a very poor area of our city, and some of the boys in my church's youth group are always asking how they might "make" gaming equipment out of common materials. I'd love to set them loose making their own dreadnoughts. I love what you did. Just splendid. |

Very creative! I look forward to seeing your gaming table next. Should be quite beautiful, viewing your battleships exchanging broadsides. |

JCBJCB, It isn't a drafting tool, it is a commercial grade hot-wire foam cutter link . I played around for quite a while using hobby grade stuff but this year for Christmas my wife gave me this beast. It cuts foam like a dream, hills, buildings, boat hulls I can make the basic shapes in very little time. My only problem is that my hands aren't steady enough for finished cuts. Send me an email at datfrica89@yahoo.com. I would be happy to send you some pre-cut hull blanks, I have tons of foam and a bit of spare time to cut them. I am in north metro Detroit, if you live anywhere nearby I could arrange to get together with you and give you some gaming supplies (I've been at it for fifty years and have a few spares that I'm happy to share). |

It doesn't seem that I can get the email to work. :( |

JCBJCB that wouldbe on account of me being one of the world's worst typists the correct address is daftrica89@yahoo.com A subtle but significant difference :) Please do try again |
