Well, not exactly deconstructing, as that would be building and painting, right? I'm doing that too, but really what I'm doing is examining. Anyone around here ever get currious about what's in the lead pile when they see "in progress" shots on a blog or a board?

I'm not even really sure on which board this best belongs. I debated 28 mil gaming. But there's no reason one's sci-fi leadpile need be in that particular scale. Heck, not all of mine is, but I was on a 28 mil board when I was struck with the idea, and the largest part of my heap-o-work-to-do is indeed in that scale. Therefore, I give you my own leadpile and ask that you take us on tours of yours.

So what's in your leadpile?

Some nice old 40K stuff there. Particularly good to see the old style Land Raider. Afraid my own lead pile would be embarrassingly bigger!

That's not a lead pile.

I did it a few years ago. Realized I rarely game anymore due to my work and family life and that I would never use the stuff. Sold off 90% of my collection. Quite cathartic not to have it looming over me anymore. I assume I'm in the minority.

McWong: that is know as a good start

Mr. Tibbles, I did the same thing, only I sold about 99%, mostly because I found stuff later after I sold it all off. You are right, it is very cathartic. I have started painting figures again, but am only doing stuff I know I will play. I have gotten into 40mm figures, using old school rules, and am very happy with it.

^McWong,

See? Now that's what I'm talking about. Show us what you got. You got a bigger leadpile? Pictures please.

A couple of observations: Miniatures take up more space in blisters. That's not the entirety of my leadpile, just the 28 mm Sci-Fi stuff in the paint or repaint cue. (Which to be fair is the bulk of the to do list.)

I also have a hundred or so WWII 1/2400 ships not wearing paint (and five hundred more that are), some fantasy, a small army of 25mm Medievals, a couple of shelves full of 1/48 kits still in boxes (and a similar number in paint), and dribs and drabs of other things. I'd guess I have somewhere on the order of three thousand models considering all sources. The above pile probably represents somewhat less than a quarter of the larger total and probably only barely more than half of what's not in paint. (I estimated about 600 models as I went along.)

I hope this thread doesnt turn into a "my pile is bigger than yours" debate

snodipous21 Jan 2015 4:07 p.m. PST

My lead pile is a shoe box next to my painting table.

McWong7321 Jan 2015 6:37 p.m. PST

That pic is from four years ago, and I'm glad to report it has been reduced by more than half via painting or sale.

Sorry if I started a debate. I know full well there are lots of folks out there with larger piles than my own, though mine steams and sputters and lets you know it's there well enough. I'm just hoping for pictures. I want to give folks a good excuse to show what they've got that ISN'T painted yet. The stuff they're excited about.

^McWong

I'm all up for reduction by painting. Trouble is I keep buying things at about the rate I paint them. (More or less.) So it doesn't get any smaller. Sort of like my exercise routine. Sure, I'm running some. But I keep eating so I'm not gaining ground so quickly as I'd like. (*Mmrf* cookies *mumble* hide please.)

I was proud for a while that I'd started a new modeling collection without buying too much stuff. I was forcing myself to paint everything new before I bought anything else. I kept it up for maybe almost two years. Miss that. Not buying too much is a good system.

I would take pics of my lead pile, but that would be a project in itself, I have a 6by 4 by 3 footcupboard chocked full of figs plus 4 moving boxes full of models, and another smaller cupboard full of figs.

This is not a healthy subject to discuss.
