Nice review- one thing that will drive this board crazy was that they used M-60 or M-48 chassis as the base for the "M-1" panzer tanks. Obviously Dale Dye did not advise on this film. They probably spent more money making that one tank used in the movie to look like an Abrams than it would to rent one from who ever is closest in the area they filmed this in.
I also read the book and they did a great job following it.

Supposedly some of those "M1 tanks" were borrowed from the Moroccans.
