Another conversion from a Squad Leader scenario, we actually played this one several times to give the Germans a fighting chance. The Germans needed to capture the town AND get several units off the opposite table edge.

Lovely. did the original ASL scenario have that many units and 11 turns? Really nice to see it being played out on your table. |

Actually Norm, the original scenario did have 11 turns, which is one of the places where we ran into problems. It was after this game when I realized that the game should have been 15 turns. Since then, I have been figuring out how long it takes for a Squad Leader infantry stand to get across the game board (plus whatever turns are allotted for fighting) and converting that to how long it takes a FOW stand to cross the game table (plus the same amount of turns for fighting). Likewise, we encountered some issues with unit conversion: In Squad Leader, the ATR or Leader would be added to an existing rifle stand to create a FOW Anti-Tank Rifle Stand or Command Rifle Stand. This is something we over-looked as well, but so far we continue to use a full ATR Rifle Stand for an ATR and Command Rifle Stand for a leader just to put more stands on the table and give the individual command groups a better chance at passing morale tests at 50% casualties. This scenario was a good example where the extra stands didn't tip the balance, since the Germans would have won had we gone for the full 15 turns. |
