Were tents used much by armies in the field during the ECW or did troops just billet in the nearest available barn or hovel? What would tents (if used) look like and who makes something suitable in 15mm?

Thanks in anticipation

By the way, we make a tent just like the one in the foreground and to the right. grin

Largely billeted on the local inhabitants, I believe.

You could make some. From that picture they look similar to medieval tents. I have a tutorial link on here;

I've sent the link to the WG site because it has a pic of one so you could decide whether it's worth looking at the tutorial via the link you'll find there.
The sides in the British Museum pic are sloping, so you would need to adjust this to handle that. That tutorial page takes a little while to load. It has a pdf on it which you can download to create the tent material – saves painting.

Take a look at the site for a business called "Past Tents". The research is good and the tent 's dimensions are given. Mainly ECW rank and file troops were billeted in and around villages but not in the buildings the officers got those! English troops would often build shelters similar to what we would call bivouacs .

Past Tents does excellent work, the first professionaly made tent my reenactment group aquired was from them and it is still soldiering on 18 years later no worse for the wear.
But even many of their simple designs tend to be a bit fancy compared to the tents that the rank and file often had to make do with.
Vrancx painting of the siege of Osten show very simple frames with canvas stretched over and notably no canvas flaps covering the front and back of the tents.

Wargamer.pl has a wide choice of military tents both 'western' and 'eastern' in their "By Fire & Sword" range.

I just spotted those as well, Daniel, seem to fit the bill perfectly but thanks for the link.
