Steve Barber has released for sale three new figures in his expanding Greek War of Independence range, these are a Greek/Balkan heroine loading, A Greek regular in helmet dating from 1825 and on the opposing side an Ottoman Provincial Infantry standing firing.

I saw one of the those regular helmets in the Amry Museum in Istanbul. Now it is true that they mislabel a lot of things, but I think this was legit.

I think for peeps who are new to the period and the War of Greek Independence, I think the photos of the painted figures, which look superb, should have the codes of the actual figures underneath them to reduce confusion?

Yes -codes under the pictures -these can be used for all sorts of things, I'm thinking officers for Napoleonic Ottomans, but the guess work needs to be removed!!!

If I end up moving to Athens in the Autumn I'll probably have to start collecting these … are people playing something like TSATF with them? It seems a good match.

Cheers,

Christopher

CATenWolde.

If you move to Athens contact me, and I can hook you up with people to wargame. I live in Turkey but visit greece 2-4 times a year. I have friends who used to wargame (some still do) though mostly fantasy. Some of them are making the transition to SAGA and might do TSATF.

There is a wargaming club called STRATEGIKON. They mostly do DBA, Field of Glory and Flames of War, though some play other stuff as well. But it has the issues most organised clubs have (somewhat of a exclusive mentality).

There are people who play HOTT and Warmaster.

A big following for Warhammer, Warhmmaer 40k, and moving to Kings of War.

I myself wargame SAGA, 10mm 19th century (Various rules), 15MM Ancient-Medieval (DBA) and board-wargames. I try to organise something every time I visit.

There are good stores for GW and some fantasy wargaming stuff (Kaissa and Fantasy Shop), a good number of modeling stores that also bring 1/72 sets, and a dedicated historical wargaming store (Athens Miniatures). There are also cafes that have opened where you can play games.

I'll do that! Nothing is sure, and it might be a to-and-fro between Helsinki and Athens for a couple of years if it works out, but it would be great! I'll probably be back in May at any rate, although mostly using Athens as a hub to travel to Crete and Thrace. Thanks for the info – it's actually better than I thought, and I think our historical interests would match up pretty well.

Cheers,

Christopher

Oh yes. Greece actually has quite a large but disorganized wargaming community. There is a bit of factionalism I fear which explains why fewer stuff. But Strategikon once help host a big european DBA tournament.

Hi Christopher,
Yes TSATF would work well, Sharpe Practice has real merit, I know of someone who uses Blackpowder and another who is working on a variant of The Perfect Capitain's rule systems. I myself use an old system called Freedom or Death which was written for The GWI these rules are well known by historical gamers in Athens but unfort are out of print as the auhor passed away some years ago.
Cheers,
Geoff

Actually you can work out the codes -the pictures do seem to be roughly in the order of the list -easier if you work from the bottom (yes I know it should be made this hard but hey)
