"With a 68-ton armored vehicle packing a 120mm cannon, U.S. Army tankers can take the fight to the enemy in just about any environment. Tankers consider themselves part of a brotherhood with roots in World War I. Now driving the M1 Abrams tank, these soldiers continue that legacy today. Here is a taste of what their life is like…" Full article and great pics here link Amicalement Armand |

What a lot of non-military, non-Tanker/Mech Inf, don't get. Is all the PMCS, maint. procedures and systems, etc. put in the mix. To keep catereing to the iron monsters. And keep them FMC. Of course being a former Grunt, M113 Mech Cdr and having the "pleasure" of being a Bn and then a Bde BMO. I'm biased … |

Haha. But it's worth every damn minute of PMCS when you're blasting through the countryside humming ride of the Valkyries to yourself in the TC's hatch. |

The sheer level of mantainance was a bit of shock when I transfered into a Mech. company. Not only was there more work to be done but it had to be done with a lot less troops than I was used to having around. (I started in Air Defence were a single AA gun platoon had 54 men due to the need to keep the guns & fire control crewed around the clock at all times, made maint. work fairly easy with a load of idle hands available at any time of day) |

I thought Ride of the Valkyries was the Air Cav's theme? |

I thought Ride of the Valkyries was the Air Cav's theme? Air Cav is dead, and when you're on top of a tank, you are beyond such small concerns. Imperial March is good too though. |

When I was in the 101. PSYOPs guys had some speakers mounted on our UH-60s in Panama. And yes, it may now be cliche' … But Ride of the Valkyries was blaring out of those speakers … |

I always wish we'd found one of them cool PSYOPS teams. Ours was all "RETURN TO YOUR HOMES, WE ARE HERE TO HELP, TRUST THE IRAQI ARMY THEY ARE YOUR FRIENDS," which was no fun at all. |

Daniel S, what kinds of AA guns were those? |
Legion 4 | 21 Jan 2015 7:36 p.m. PST |
Daniel S. being from Sweden, it was probably a Bofors of some type ? |
Daniel S | 22 Jan 2015 4:22 a.m. PST |
Yes, the Bofors 40mm L/70 to use the international designation. Fire control was provided by the CIG 790 which had a CW radar as well as an advanced optical sight and laser rangefinder.
At company level there was the GIRAFFE 75 early warning radar. |
