I am looking for recommendations for a single Crimean War book, one that covers the political lead up a tad as I know nothing about the conflict, but one that focuses more on the military aspect, including the Turkish, Sardinian, and French roles, along with the British and Russians of course. So, a military history with a bit of background. Suggestions?

I would have to second Nashville's suggestions. The Royle books is very good for the politics leading up to the actual start of the war.

Well, good and bad…that book was for sale on here not too long ago and I failed to grab it then…but I think my local Half Price Books has it.

I've joined the Yahoo group…thanks for that as well.

I am going to hold off on the Facebook link for now…I have too many groups and pages to deal with.

All great suggestions, thanks Nashville!

To join in on the chorus, I really enjoyed Trevor Royle's book. Got it cheap and used on Amazon. From not knowing anything about the war before reading the book, I came away feeling like I had a decent understanding and experiences a very pleasant read…

"The Crimean War" by Clive Ponting is a great read and covers all of your requests for a book on the topic.

I'm half-way through Trevor Royle's book at the moment and it is an excellent read.

The Crimean War; A History by Orlando Figes

The Crimean War: Queen Victoria's War with the Russian Tsars
Hugh Small

Small's work is a short one, but very good. Figes is a more extensive work. I used both as reference material for a Senior Thesis. I enjoyed Small's work more, but both are excellent.

"Joe's Shop" was selling it. Look in the "Marketplace" or get in touch with him as he may have multiple copies

Another book I have is 'War In the Crimea' by Ian Fletcher and Natalia Ischenko. Lots of illustrations as well.
