But four years later, during a meeting of American advisers in Karachi, Pakistan, one of the Pentagon's top officers in Iran felt embarrassed by how slow military aid was flowing into the country.

"I stand here, really, with a deep feeling of guilt," U.S. Army Maj. Gen. J.F.R. Seitz, chief of the Military Assistance Advisory Group in Iran, said during the meeting…"

Not the first time a US military commander disagreed with the current denizens of the WH and Congress. However, as of late disagreeing will get you fired. Ask Gen. McCrystal, and others. Like Gen. Singlaub back in the Carter administration. That being said, the military follows the lawful orders of the elected officials. That system generally has worked well since the end on the AWI.

Disagreeing got MacArthur fired back in 1951.

One of the strong features of the US armed services is that they follow the orders of elected officials, unlike various third-world armed services. The British Army over its long history has violated this from time to time. The military dictatorship of Oliver Cromwell springs to mind, as does the Glorious Revolution. And most recently there was the Curragh Mutiny of 1914, a mutiny by the brass against their elected bosses. Much better the way we have done it.

The last serious threat was the Newburgh Conspiracy of 1783.
