Don't know if you've heard about it, but Amazon Prime recently debuted the pilot for The Man in the High Castle – a proposed series based on Philip K. Dick's novel in which the Axis powers won World War II and occupy America.

And it's pretty good! First, the production is amazing. The production team created an alternate 1960s America dominated by Nazi Germany in the east and Imperial Japan in the west. You see New York Time Square filled with Nazi propaganda and an alternate San Francisco with heavy Japanese influence (and crawling with Japanese soldiers). The costumes are creative – it is a bit spooky seeing Nazi officers with American flag armbands with the swastika emblazoned on them. The story itself is interesting, although being a pilot, it is all set up with no pay off at the end.

The idea of Germany occupying the U.S. is a bit of a stretch, but it is a fun scenario to explore. (The Japanese occupying the West Coast is a bit more believable.) Anyway, I really want to see more of this series. Amazon has a strange system in which it debuts a bunch of pilots at one time and, depending on the viewer reaction, it chooses one to develop into a full series. Luckily, the other pilots are not supposed to be any good. If you are not an Amazon Prime subscriber, I think you can rent the video for a small fee.

Saw the pilot. It looked good. Only thing that worries me is the if they stay loyal to the Dick book it is really weird imho. The scene with the ashes was pretty poignant and terrifying.

Mr. Dick was a little nuts. Great writer

See it, and then VOTE! I'd love to see this series picked up.
