Hello, all,

It seems that somewhere along the line someone decided that 28mm Crimean Russians, particularly the infantry, should be greatcoated blobs, and that has seemed to have become the norm. Even Russian hussars are in greatcoats (which is unique).

Seems like there are more options in 15mm, but not so much in 28mm.

So, like the subject line asks, does anyone know of a line of 28mm Crimean Russians who aren't in greatcoats?

I'm interested in the figs not strictly for the Crimea, but for the period in general--I'm aware of the figs that are available for Russo Turkish in 28mm, but I'm looking for the earlier period look.

Thanks,
Ed M

Thanks, Mashrewba,

I should have clarified a bit. The Foundry are fine, so long as you stay within the line, but small compared to others nowadays. I was thinking outside of the Foundry line given all the larger lines available for non Russians in the era.

Took a deeper look at Foundry, which is mainly Russians in greatcoats except for a few (which is something, anyway). Other than uhlans and cossacks, the Russian cavalry-in-greatcoat problem still obtains (to include the poor hussars) There's some small help with two inf infantry packs not in greatcoats. Bottom line is that I think I'd have to mix lines outside of Foundry to round out the units, assuming there are options out there, which brings up the issue of compatability (again).

I have got some Great War Miniature command mixed in with my Foundries but it's pushing it a bit. Ebor do Crimeans but again all in great coat but check out the price!!!

I'd like to have non greatcoat units too but I'm happy to stick with Foundry.

Thanks, Mashrewba,

I hadn't seen Ebor before. Greatcoats aside, they're good looking figs.

They always wore the greatcoat though, didn't they?

Khurasanminiatures,

I'm sure that in the dead of summer they may have grounded their greatcoats in some cases and went into action without. But even if they didn't, they more likely would have have "worn" them rolled over the shoulder (that would still be a better look). But even if that's the case for the Crimea, I'm interested in the period Russian army, which opens more possibilities.

On another note, what I'm really after is some balance. You have options with the allied figures that are not available to the Russian. It would be nice to not be limited to drab on the Russian side of the table while everything up to up to full dress is on the other.

Best,
Ed M

They did not wear the greatcoats in the hotter parts of the Crimea, this is a gap in the modern 28mm, Foundry aside…so come on Ebob and Grest War Miniatures lets see them….Please!

My understanding is that the greatcoat was light weight and unlined and was worn over the tunic in winter and over a shirt in summer as the campaign wear. This wasn't optional. This is what they actually looked like. Hussars as well.
