I have the Ordnance Survey Map of Dark Age Britain which I used for my RPG. Very detailed. |

There should be nice maps of Historical Scotland out there -- I have a bunch from trips there, picked up at museums and historical sites gift stores. Not all of these are tourist junk, some are very useful and informative. For example, I checked Amazon.UK and see this there: link -- sad to note, this is priced outrageously. is this no longer in print? You used to see them for sale for a pound or two at Scottish castles and battlefields and National Trust sites. I've had a framed one on my wall over my paint table for years. Hard to imagine it selling for this price! Tranter churned out a pile of Scottish history novels of uneven quality, somewhat formulaic but still fun and occasionally game-inspiring. Which ones have you got? My picks would be the Robert the Bruce trilogy and The Black Douglas. |

The OS map is great, but a modern map is pretty useful – with few exceptions Scottish towns are medieval in origin so towns have the same locations now as they did 700/800 years ago- or more. The towns were, of course, very much smaller! Tranter's history is- as Piper says – uneven at best, so don't rely on him for anything military. |
