I came across this site while looking for some other info. It contains a number of color images of flags flown at Antietam. I thought it might be of interest to some folks here. V/R link |

Very interesting. Several of the flags are unique and would be fun to see on the table. I wish I could see what the entire PeeDee Artillery flag looks like. I would love to paint it up. |

Find it hard to believe that's the original (As in carried on the day) 1st Texas flag considering the shellacking they took. Unless it was captured fairly early on in the action. |

It wasn't really captured from what I recall. It was found on the field after the entire color party was wiped out. |

Trajanus, It's what Dn Jackson says. It was "captured" by a federal soldier, who found it laying on top of a number of dead from the color party. The 1st Texas (along with the rest of the brigade) was engaged early in Miller's Corn Field where all of the units suffered tremendously. |

The 1st Texas (along with the rest of the brigade) was engaged early in Miller's Corn Field where all of the units suffered tremendously. Yeah that was kind of my point. For a unit that lost 186 of the 226 engaged (a casualty rate of 82.3% percent) the flag looks amazingly intact! |
