Comments or corrections?

Hello!

My ancient project for this year is to play the Second and Third Macedonian war (and maybe some Syrian Wars too). I started by reading about the battle of Kallinikos. I have read Livy, Ancient Warfare IV6 and Webber's "The Gods of Battle". I do think there are enough information to reconstruct the Macedonian side, but not the Roman. See this picture for my reconstruction so far:

I would be very happy for any comments about this reconstruction or help finding more sources to read about the battle.

Livy says there were Cyrtians at the battle. Is that correct, Cyrtians are an iranian tribe, aren't they?

Pergamon had a pretty large army present, where most was in reserve. The text mention small groups of Cretans, Mysians and Gauls (Galatians?), but what about the rest, what could they have been?

The Macedonian slingers, could they have been Kestrosphendone?

Björn

Sounds like a good project, Björn. The battle is also known as Larissa, and Gaebel has a bit about it in his book on cavalry operations.

See pages 254-6. You can read it at this link: PDF link
