I am refurbishing some toys from my childhood, and in many cases the chrome finish has rubbed off from the raised areas.

Is anyone familiar with a way to repair a chrome finish? Or to add it to replacement parts?

Thank you in advance.

Check on squadron.com in their paints and finishes section for silver or chrome leaf. I know the plastic model guys use it. You may find it at your local hobby shop as well. Good luck.

Are you talking about a real chrome finish, or a pretend chrome finish, or a chrome paint finish? If the part was truly chromed (probably electroplated), you will need to have it stripped and rechromed at a plating shop because you will need a plating tank, solution, rack, anode, cathode, and an appropriate electric source with an adjustable current dial.

If this is a metal toy with a real chrome---you are best off to use the Alclad---you need to watch the link above

If this is a plastic, mask area, or find a way to remove parts---go to the hardware store and get spray paint with a chrome cap--not silver---hardware store and hobby store stuff do not seem that different in quality--but price at hardware is much lower
