As someone new to the ACW, can anyone tell me what colours the 20th Georgia would have carried at Gettysburg? Are they the same as the colours offered by GMB? And how would the colour party be made up? Thanks. |

The 20th Georgia flag has not survived, but based on the other flags in Benning's Brigade the regiment carried a Third Bunting Issue battleflag. The 15th Georgia carried a similar flag with its unit designation on a white cloth patch on the lower edge of the flag. It is possible that the 20th Georgia had the same type of markings on its flag but this cannot be confirmed and the flag may have been unmarked. I don't know how GMB has shown the 20th Georgia's flag but for an unmarked Third Bunting battleflag use flag CS35. The colour guard was made up of corporals and a Colour Bearer formed in 3 ranks of 3 files. The Colour Bearer was positioned in the center of the front rank. link |
