… Of The British Navy. "Three Chinese naval ships have docked at a British base for a formal visit that samples the strength of the fleet being built up by the country. Chinese ambassador Liu Xiaoming and hundreds of flag-waving UK-based Chinese residents welcomed the ships into Portsmouth Naval Base. Heading a task group on enhancing military understanding between the two countries is the assault ship Chang Bai Shan. She was accompanied by the frigate Yun Cheng and the replenishment ship Chaohu at the Hampshire dockyard. During the five-day visit, senior officers from both navies will discuss maritime topics including counter-piracy operations across the Indian Ocean… Full article and video here link Amicalement Armand |

The Yun Cheng is a lovely frigate, and one of the best of the new Chinese navy. The modern Chinese designs for both their destroyers and frigates are certainly world class. It's quite a change from 20 years ago. I still get a kick out of them being the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), though. |

Fascinating! I live nearby but hadn't seen any local news recently so missed this. Will pop down to have a look I think, as they seem near enough to HMS Victory to be seen from the heritage area. Thanks. |

It would be a shame if something happened to them in port – maybe all their electrical systems might fry |

Only way that'd happen is if they swapped their Chinese components for "Made in Britain". |

I still get a kick out of them being the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), though I get a kick mentioning their naval air arm, the PLANAF. |

Welcome Chinese Brothers to our Beautiful City! All the Historic ships are worth a visit. The best local Chinese restaurant is probably Wokking the Duck on Albert Road, but your mileage may vary! For seafood, I would recommend Loch Fyne in the Gunwharf, and for Englsh pub food, The Golden Lion up on the hill at Southwick. |

nice looking ships, and obviously able to make long journeys … so able to do some power projection. |

Someone with a decent size navy might as well use the port. |

Don't worry. They're just dropping off some fresh teams of hackers. Soon you'll have major disruptions in government and banking communications … But with all the evidence pointing to Russia and North Korea, of course. Because, as we know and are told time and time again, China is our friend. TMP link Dan PS. Just switch out the word "women" with the word "China": YouTube link |

The Chang Bai Shan is the newest of the Type 071 LPDs, roughly equivalent to a San Antonio-class, with capacity for about 1 battalion of troops. Good way to demonstrate some power projection ability. Also good to see that their replenishment ships are up to task. |

Legbiter, given high British prices and the low wages of Chinese sailors I would suspect that even McDonald's would be out of their budget |
