Did recce regiments in infantry divisions use the same diamond, square, circle, triangle system as armoured units? And if they did what colour would it have been? White the same as unbrigaded units in an armoured division? Thanks Leigh |

White tac signs, because they're divisional troops, as you note, and green-over-blue square markings with a white "41" IIRC. |

Yes, as Jeff says, they used white signs. The one exception to the Arm-of-Service square was 'A' Squadron, 43 Recce Regt, which had a black 41 on a diagonally-split yellow/green square. |

Jemima, any idea why a sqdrn, 43 recce regt was different. Is there photo evidence? |

Yes, the original 'A' Sqn 43 Recce Regt was tragically lost at sea when their ship was sunk. A new 'A' Sqn was then formed from a reserve Recce Regt in the UK. The donating regiment used the non-standard yellow/green marking, as those were the colours of the Recce Corps. |

Thanks Jemima, I know A sqdrn was lost (43 recce is what I will be modelling), but didn't know they got replacedby unit from reserve recce unit. I think the sdrn I do will depend on what white tac markings I have in stock! Leigh |

I'm trying to remember which Recce Regt filled in… |

Aha, it was 161 (Green Howards) Recce Regt who supplied the replacement 'A' Sqn for 43 Recce Regt. |

Do you sit at work with your library of books? |
