Guys ,Is it trure during the handing out of flag changing the flag bearer had to drop their flags to the ground with tears in their eyes they accepted the cokcook? greetings serge joe

possibly lost for words on this one……..?

All I do know was that the flag in Napoleon's armies was regarded as of much lesser value than the cuckoo. Dipping the flag is a traditional salute, fortunately our Guards are not required to burst into tears on HGP for Trooping of the Colour.

yes true, some units didn't even want to yield their colours, others were outrage just to throw them into the dirt – of course they were stored in the depot which the Prussians plundered in 1814 or 1815 and a lot of the glorious colours were stored in the Old Zeughaus at Berlin, where they survived the 2nd WW but after that seemingly this unique collection was dispersed.
