Anyone owning both these kits? Pros/cons?

idontbelieveit12 Jan 2015 11:50 a.m. PST

I do. I hope to have a review up on my blog soon on the Rubicon model. I opened the Warlord one and after looking it over just put it back in the box. I may raid it for the antenna guard part as the Rubicon model doesn't have that.

But in general, the detail is much nicer on the Rubicon model, IMO.

Do the two kits match up size-wise? I heard Rubicon kits are a little bigger.

Anyone have a Blitzkrieg model to compare with these as well?

Ethanjt2112 Jan 2015 11:38 p.m. PST

The WG ones are ok. Never seen Rubicon.

Alternatively…my wife picked up 3 toy panzer IVs at the Oosterbeek airborne museum for about 5 Euros apiece..a slap of paint and they look surprisingly good and fit very well with 28mm figures.

I'll check later today and post. On my blog I put comparisons of the Rubicon T-34 and the Warlord (resin) T-34. The Rubicon is a bit bigger.

I can't tell about the height without putting it together, but length and width are pretty close.

There is a comparison of the Pz IV kits on Volleyfire Painting Service's Blogspot. He discusses the pro and cons of both kits plus one other with plenty of pictures of both.

Hope this helps.

Thank you!

Hope the review helped, I've added a review of Rubicons Panther now too, with comparison shots with Warlords Resin one

Also helpful, thanks. I will be interested in the size comparison between the plastic Warlord Panther and the Rubicon kit.

Your paint jobs look awesome.

Thank you! As soon as I get the Warlord Panther I'll do a comparison there, and I'll be doing a Stug roundup in the next month or so too all being well.

Just finished building a Warlord Mk IV kit.
2 notes:
1: The wheels and tracks are best painted before assembly, otherwise its impossible to get a brush into all of the nooks and crannies. Fortunately, tanks get muddy a lot, so I was able to hide the ugliest bits.
2: The armor skirts are best left off until the mud is applied to the wheels, then attach the skirts and finish painting.

I bought three Panzer IV's from Warlord as they are cheaper than anyone else's. They were quick to assemble and look great. The ability to make all three variants is quite nice to boot. I will probably wind up buying several more since they are so cheap.
