Hello all! My son and I recently played a battle using the One Page 40k rules, using 1000 points of Orcs vs. Space Marines in a city environment. We are looking for an alternative to the main 40k rules, and wanted to give this a try. We created our lists in about 20 minutes, and ran about 65 orcs vs. about 30 marines with an APC. The game took 90 minutes to play through, including setup, looking up rules, and putting away. We both agreed that the game was faster, and more fun that the last few games of 40k we had played. The system is not by any means perfect, but seems as well balanced as Warhammer 40k is. YMMV.

Setup: The Ironfist tribe of Orcs are on a rampage in the Lavonix region of the Imperium. A large contingent have landed on the major world of Periwal, and are raiding major settlements across the planet. By the time any serious forces can be brought to bear, the raiders have faded back into the surrounding wilds. A call for help was sent, and a reply was quick in response. Space Marine Captain Epiceru landed with a force to help destroy the rampaging force. A trap was laid, and all that was needed was for the orcs to stumble into it.

Round One: The Orcs were spread out across the city, looking for loot as they spread chaos wherever they went. The Marines were spread across the opposite side of town, sitting in wait for the orcs to appear. Their Rhino sat waiting with a group of Terminators inside.

Round Two: The Orcs spread further into the city. The Rhino went screaming into the open, hurling towards the largest concentration of Orc. Windows were blown out by Marines opening fire on the Orcs out in the open. While casulties amongst the Orc were relatively light, the gunfire served to draw them even deeper into the city. The Rhino brakes squealed as it stopped, three large suits of ancient armor coming forth as Orcs poured into the open street. A hail of heavy automatic fire poured from a tenement on the Orc side of the city, blowing the antenae off the Rhino as it provided cover for the Terminators. Marines continued to fire on the advancing Orcs, picking away more. One group of Scouts revealed itself in a hail of gunfire, killing off most of a squad of Orcs. Another band charged the Scouts, killing them all at a heavy cost.

Round Three: Two bands of Orcs charged the Terminators, after they were first peppered with fire by the Orc heavy machineguns. Two squads for the two surviving Terminators proved poor odds for the Orcs, who were completely destroyed at the cost of only one of ancient battlesuits. Two bands of grots were caught in the open, and destroyed by concentrated fire of the Space Marines. The few surviving Orc bands contemplated retreat, but instead focused fire on one of the Marine squads and causing two of the five Marines to drop.

Round Four: Marines charged forth from the apartments, and into combat with the Orcs still scattered about the city. In the ensuing combats, all of the remaining Orc were killed or scattered. The final victory stood solidly in the hands of the Marines, the largest band of the raiding Orcs destroyed. The world was well on it's way to being safe once more for the loyal people of the Imperium.

Sounds like a fun game. I'll have to try those rules myself. Thanks for the write-up.

Sorry! We talked about taking pictures, but were half-way into our game before realizing that we had not actually gotten around to pulling out the camera!

We are planning for a new game this weekend, so I will try to get some pics and a new batrep for you. Thanks!
