Could i use the Zvedza models as different ships for example could i buy this one auction and put different flags on it to represent another Spanish or even Portuguese Galleon? |

Most British galleons, of the Armada era, were race built. That means they were much lower lying making them more manuevable. So yes you could designate the model as a different ship, especially if you chose another Spanish or Portuguese galleon. San Martin was a large ship but if you have few models to choose from go with what you like. |

The majority of the English ships in the Armada campaign were 'hired guns' – armed merchantmen, private merchant galleons and other similar ships. The remainder were a mixture of Royal ships – "greatships", traditional galleons and racebuilts – the latter of which numbered around 8-10, none being among the largest of the English ships. The Spanish and Portuguese galleons were all along the traditional lines – no racebuilts. This meant that they were beamier and higher in the water. The Zvezda kit represents the San Martin which was the largest Spanish (ex Portuguese actually) galleon present. Most of the rest would be considerably smaller. Also note that of the entire Spanish armada, only about 25 ships were actually galleons. The rest were armed merchant ships of various types and sizes – some being huge! I have an old 1/300 Armada page if you are intersted: link |
