Hi everyone;
We play CY6 for battles over Guadalcanal or North Africa, we even had a bomber box of B-17s (1/300 scale)fending off Luftwaffe fighters. and now we're thinking of trying to game the RAF Night bombing raids and German Nightfighter intercepts.
I just ordered the board game Nightfighter by GMT, but that looks like a 1-2 player game.
I want to go with 1/600 and am thinking of using them with the board game, but…we'd like to see if CY6 could handle it. Anybody out there already doing that. Thanks
Joe

Interesting; you may want to adapt the radar rules from CY6 Jet Age. I seem to remember the small Ballentine(?) series of books one on the Luftwaffe had a diagram of respective radar ranges. Saw it somewhere,anyway. Was defensive bomber fire even remotely effective though to make an interesting game?

Hi B.
I do have CY6 Jet Age, will look into that.
from what I've read, the defensive gunners do have a chance against the fighters, but…I think it was more of the bombers using "defensive driving" to throw off the aim of the fighter.
I guess the answer to my question is "no…nobody is using CY6 for this"
looking forward to the Nightfighter board game.
Take care;
Joe

This link has pdfs of the rules and a VASSAL module while you're waiting. Lots of excellent research in the NIGHTFIGHTER and BOMBER COMMAND games from GMT.

No, but I've been working on some house-rules and stats to do that with the Duel of Eagles rules.

I think it should be quite fun, at least for the NF pilots. Want to add in some Allied NFs to the mix, just to keep the Germans on their toes.

From battle accounts I've read, it appears only about 10% of the bombers were aware they were being attacked by NFs, so probably not much fun for RAF bomber pilots.

Assuming perhaps the above percentage is low, you could double that to 20% perhaps, to make the game a little more balanced, with options for action, as listed below.

Perhaps better, if you assign them to command a full squadron of bombers, but again, not much to do until you come under attack, and then it is: evade, evade and shoot, and/or just shoot back at the NFs.

Generally, from anecdotal accounts I've read, German NF attacks resulted in kills about 50% of the time (occasionally higher, e.g. up to about 70%, or so).

While some may think that too high, it does match closely with US NF kill percentages too, vs. the Luftwaffe, in late 1944, and early 1945.

What isn't always clear is the number of attacks required by the NFs to down the enemy aircraft. Sometimes one shot would do it. On other occasions, two or three bursts, and/or attack passes might be necessary. Less, for the more effective, and deadly Schraege-Musik attacks from directly below the bombers.

Hi everyone;
I just received the Nightfighter board game and a friend sent me the pdf for Solo rules.
I kind of had the plan of playing this out with miniature aircraft (1/600) on a black game mat with the same amount of hexes on it, but bigger hexes.
I think in the short term I'll try out the board game first a few times and then see if I still feel the need to get miniatures.
The rule book is well written in my opinion and I've already learned more about Nightfighting in other regions besides 1943 Western Europe.

Some where on one of the Yahoo groups…Mustangs or Blue Skies there are some really nice picture and a breakdown of a nightfighter game. I am sure the bones of which can be used to another rule set. As I don't have access to them at the moment just thought I would trow it out there.

Thanks VM;
I'll look into that lead.
There was a photo posted here on TMP about a Night Bomber game, with well made searchlights markers, that's what got me going on it, but they didn't mention the rules used.

I think it is on the Mustangs Yahoo Group.

There are rules for NF'ing there, too.
