I've completed painting my first two field batteries for All Quiet on the Martian Front. I plan to add another field battery and then two heavy field batteries. I love artillery and I think they will be quite effective in the game. I've heard some people say they haven't found them effective, but I think if used in mass they could be. I'm also going to use a house rule allowing the guns in a battery to fire individually at any targets that come within 30". Historically, artillery has always been used in this fashion and there's no reason to think they wouldn't in the All Quiet world.
Here are the two batteries side by side.

I'm styling them as part of the 107th Field Artillery Battalion, part of the 28th Division, hence the red keystones on the uniforms of the gunners.

Most of the gunners are the Alien Dungeon ones that came with the kits, but I added a few from Blue Moon to get more variety in the poses.

I made the shells and empty shell casings from plastic rod.

I like these kits a lot. I'm really hoping that Alien Dungeon makes some horse drawn limbers for these!

Great painting and basing! I can hear the roar of the guns.

Nice job. Humans need everything they can get opposing the Tripods. Template weps make the Martian think twice about massing his big walkers together in choke points. You are on the right track I think with multiple batteries. In for a penny, in for a pound. I debated mounting my gunners on separate stands. I may rethink the configuration. Yours look excellent posed right in with the weapons stands. Outstanding work on the webbing gear.

Thanks! I think artillery can be effective. You can get three field batteries for the cost one one platoon of MK III steam tanks. If the table is large enough that the field batteries can get in some long range bombardments before the tripods are even close enough to shoot back then you may be able to hurt them. Of course, if the Martians have their grenadier tripods, your field guns may be engaged in counterbattery fire instead :)

Station a battery of Anti Tripod Guns (90mm) under a Hidden marker just waiting for that Scout Tripod with a Targeter to show up. Make it easy for them. Refuse one side but sew it with Tesla mines. Encourage them to enter the minefield. Oh, yes. Tripod stew. Welcome to Terra, boys.

I just finished play testing a game for Little Wars in April. The scenario has US Forces taking advantage of the winter lull in fighting to build up their defensive positions for the Chicago area. They are building a bastion to support some more forward positions. The Martians decide to launch a spoiling attack led by the Red Martian. The table size is 6 ft wide, 12 deep. In the playtest the artillery did quite well, they had the ability to hit Tripods long before they could shoot back. The Land Ironclad was present as well, but do to fire control problems (they could not hit the broad side of a barn) it was not that effective in destroying Tripods, but its appearance along made a very big impact.
