Being the aerial freak that I am, I realized that there are WW1, WW2, Post-WW2, niche wars like SCW rules for aerial combat but nothing for SF that I know of…

Not space combat but solid planet bound aerial combat in "the future."

So, what rules for SF aerial combat am I unaware of?

there are rules for Air to Air Combat in Traveller

JTAS #14 has 'Foxhound' a variant for Striker
and MegaTraveller has COACC

A bit old (as in 1st edition) but if you may like the Heavy Gear universe:
Heavy Gear DP9-008 – Tactical Air Support

It has construction rules but also needed would be the Heavy Gear Rulebook. I recommend the 1st edition one (DP9-001) as it is the only one that has the build formula in it (if you *really* like math)

Both are available on eBay for fairly low amounts

Back in the day there was a aerospace add on for Battletech called Aerotech.

Uhmmm… not sure sure where Crimson Skies would fall into this. The original from FASA

Aeronautica Imperialis is actually pretty good. More or less same mechanics as the Wings of Glory WW1 or Wings of War WW2 rules.

I had some mods made for Air War C21 for the Supersylph Yukikaze setting: TMP link

What's Yukikaze? It's a series set some point in the future where aliens have made contact with the Earth via a hyperspace tunnel found on Antarctica. Earth aircraft are firmly 5th generation, maybe 6th. The "Fairy Air Force" planes are more like 8th or 9th generation. The multifunction radar on one of the recon birds is powerful enough to cause interference with an aircraft carrier's air-search radar.

This particular bird is named "Yukikaze", but she's representative of the "Super Sylph" recon birds:

According to the books, that beast has a max takeoff weight of 83klbs, but has a takeoff thrust of 100klbs.

This is the frontline combat bird, it's called a Sylphid:

And this is the experimental hot-rod that was supposed to replace Yukikaze:

Very badass, it's even more overpowered than the Super Sylph, and the Super Sylphs can pull 16 gees in a turn.

This is the Earthside JMSDF's frontline fighter, the F/A-27C:

Sadly, no models of the alien fighters.
